FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has been appointed brand ambassador for the National Aids Council here. Speaking at World AIDS Day District commemorations at Mandava, Winston Chitando, the Mimosa executive chairman, announced to thousands of people that Mapeza was now carrying the torch.

“We have decided to appoint Norman Mapeza as the Getting to Zero in AfricaAfrica Responsibility, Everyone Responsibility Ambassador because he brings teamwork and team spirit against HIVAIDS,” said Chitando.

Mapeza felt humbled by the appointment.

“I promise to work hard for Zvishavane and the country,” said Mapeza.

“I am not only good at coaching football but I am also good at working for the community. I will do my best to assist in reducing the HIV prevalence rate in the country.”

Mapeza is excited to be involved in community work after spending two years on the sidelines which derailed his coaching career.

Only three weeks ago, Mapeza extended an olive branch to ZIFA to resolve their differences.

FC Platinum celebrated the four trophies they won this season with an open top bus parade here on Friday.

They had a procession from Zvishavane town to Mandava before proceeding to the stadium.

“It was a thank you to the community of Zvishavane for their support,” club chairman Dumisani Sisale said.

“We chose to do it in a different way by conducting a clean-up exercise at Mandava bus rank.”

FC Platinum won the Independence Cup, ZNA Commander of Charities Cup, the CG Msipa Cup and the Chibuku Super Cup, which gave them the ticket to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.
