A 35 year old Matobo man who was released from prison last year has confessed to raping a 91-year old woman saying he was enticed by a mini-skirt the granny was wearing.

Nicholas Ndlovu of Natisa Village in Matobo pleaded guilty to charges of rape when he appeared before Gwanda regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza Thursday.

Ndlovu was allegedly released from prison last year after serving seven years for rape.

Asked by the magistrate why he raped the old woman, Ndlovu said he was not aware of her age and had been attracted to her because she wore a mini-skirt.

The court heard that on the 23rd of November last year, Ndlovu was passing by the granny’s homestead when he asked for some water and was given.

Ndlovu asked for another glass of water and the granny proceeded to the kitchen.

While she was in the kitchen Ndlovu appeared and produced a knife threatening to stab the granny if she screamed.

He pushed her to the floor and raped her once threatening to come back and kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

The old lady however notified her neighbour who alerted Chief Malaki Masuku and the matter was reported to the police.

Ndlovu will be sentenced Friday after the state indicated it needed time to check his criminal record.
