AN MDC-T councillor was arraigned before the courts Friday after he was allegedly caught having sex with a male partner in Harare’s industrial areas.

Sydney Chirombe, 49, is not new to similar allegations. He already has a pending case before the courts after he allegedly tried to sodomise a bus driver while on a council retreat in the resort town of Kariba in March this year.

Chirombe was out on a $50 bail over the Kariba allegations.

In the latest case, the councillor appeared before magistrate, Donald Ndirowei, Friday together with Joseph Muchena, 23, the man he was caught in the act with by patrolling police officers.

The court heard that the incident occurred at around 2:30am on May 15 when a police patrol team in Glen Norah spotted a Toyota Noah (registration number ACH 7644) parked along Godwin Road in Willowvale.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, the cops found Chirombe having sex with Muchena on the front passenger seat.

The councillor, said to have been stripped down to his underwear, allegedly tried to start the vehicle and flee but one of the cops grabbed the car keys and the pair was arrested.

Chirombe was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing.

The State, represented by Sharon Mashavire, pleaded with the magistrate not to entertain the bail application until it was established with courts in Kariba whether Chirombe’s had been convicted on charges he faced there.

During the entire hearing, Chirombe appeared unfazed and was relaxed, carefully following the proceedings.

In the Kariba case, Chirombe is said to have shared a twin-bed room with Nyaradzo Funeral Services bus driver, Richard Nyakabau.

The driver however, woke up in the middle of the night to find the councillor in his blankets and fondling him. He had allegedly removed his shorts and underwear.

Nyakabau screamed for help and was rescued by other councillors who were in the next rooms.

After his Kariba incident, the opposition MDC-T party suspended Chirombe for allegedly tarnishing the name of the party pending a disciplinary hearing which was yet to be arranged.
