IT’S now official, Sunday Chidzambwa is the new coach at ZPC Kariba.

Club officials yesterday ended weeks of speculation when they announced that the former Dynamos and Warriors coach will take over the reins at the ambitious side, replacing Young Warriors assistant coach Saul Chaminuka. Chidzambwa will mark his return to domestic football with an away trip to Triangle when league games resume at the end of the month before coming back home at Nyamhunga to face struggling newboys Tsholotsho Pirates.

Currently, the Premiership season is on a three-week break to pave way for the national team’s participation in the AFCON and CHAN qualifiers.

ZPC Kariba spokesperson Fadzai Chisveto yesterday said they were looking ahead with confidence after roping in the experienced coach who also had a stint in South Africa until 2013 when he was with Black Leopards.

Chisveto said ZPC Kariba decided to bring in Chidzambwa after terminating Chaminuka’s contract, which still had a year running.

Chaminuka and his assistant Godfrey Tamirepi were suspended last month following a string of poor results and the side tasked caretaker coach Oliver Matava to lead the team for a period of five games, which lapsed on Saturday, with a 1-1 home draw against Dynamos.

Interestingly, the veteran coach was at the stadium in the company of club chairman Munyaradzi Nduna.

“The team is currently on 10th position, but we believe that with the appointment of a new coach, the boys will perform better and meet our target of finishing in the top five,” said Chisveto in a statement yesterday.

Chaminuka is set to join Buffaloes.
