MIGHTY Warriors will be hoping to put one foot into the African Women Championships finals with a victory over Zambia in the first leg of the final round qualifier at Gwanzura this afternoon.

If they prevail over Zambia, the Rosemary Mugadza-coached outfit will book a place at the finals of the competition to be held in Namibia.

The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup to be held in Canada.

Mugadza, herself a former captain of the team, expressed confidence of prevailing over their northern opponents as they move to restore the good old days when the team was the pride of the nation.

“We have to qualify for the AWC and the girls are aware of that,” she said.

Mugadza said her team needed to carry a healthy score line going into the second leg.

“We have to win by a convincing margin so that we do not put unnecessary pressure on ourselves going into the second leg,” she said.

Mugadza’s confidence may be stemming from the presence of a number of experienced and talented players such as Melody Musasa, Rudo Neshamba and Marjory Nyaumwe.

The Mighty Warriors will be buoyed by the fact that the last time the two countries met in Zambia, they beat their hosts 4-1.

Zambia are however not to be taken lightly as they won their last match against Rwanda.

The neighbours arrived in the country on Thursday night and had enough time to prepare for the encounter.
