NEW Zambia president Edgar Lungu arrived in Harare Friday afternoon for his first foreign trip since his election last month.

Lungu was met by vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa at Harare International Airport and whisked off the State House for meetings with President Robert Mugabe.

The Zambian leader is accompanied by foreign minister Harry Kalaba and other top aides.

According to state media, the visit is aimed to brief Mugabe on developments in Zambia.

The Zimbabwean leader is current chairman of the regional SADC grouping and also recently took over as chair of the African Union.

Lungu won a tightly contested vote last month to replace the late president Michael Sata who died in the United Kingdom last October.
