ZANU PF has said 100 children born on 21 February will be flown to the resort town of Victoria Falls and attend the million dollar President Robert Mugabe birthday bash.

According to the state broadcaster the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Tuesday, the 100 children who share the birthday with the aging leader are being selected and identified from all the country’s 10 provinces.

ZBC said the selection and scouting of such children was underway.

President Robert Mugabe will be turning 91 this weekend and his main birthday party will be held at the prestigious Elephant Hills hotel in Victoria Falls on 28 February.

The party’s youth wing said it was planning to spend not less than $1 million at party.

The ZANU (PF) youth wing which is organizing the bash said it had so far raised $500 000 out of the $1million target.

A ZANU (PF) official at the party’s Harare provincial head office who spoke on conditions of anonymity said they feared that the selection process of deserving children to attend the President’s bash was going to be rocked by corruption.

“We have been seeing corruption and nepotism in the President’s charity programs including the free agriculture inputs scheme to the granting of scholarships,” he said.

Opposition parties are on record denouncing the President’s birthday celebrations saying the monies raised each year should be given to the suffering communities whose poverty they attribute to corruption and maladministration by the ruling ZANU (PF) party.
