FORMER Vice President Joice Mujuru has been urged to take President Robert Mugabe to court over accusations that she has been dabbling in witchcraft.

Mugabe claimed his former VP engaged in occult rituals with Nigerians while “topless with breasts hanging” as part of a desperate bid to topple the veteran leader.

Opposition MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu, in an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, said Mugabe was in breach of the Witchcraft suppression act.

“The Witchcraft Suppression Act, as amended in 2009, criminalises the act of accusing anyone of being a witch andor of practising witchcraft and sorcery.

“Robert Mugabe boldly accused Joice Mujuru of practising and dabbling in voodoo and thereby, Mugabe has clearly breached the law,” said Gutu.

He said although Mujuru’s chances of success are good, could not sue the Zimbabwean leader because he is protected by the law.

“However, for now, Mujuru cannot sue Mugabe because he enjoys Presidential immunity in terms of the provisions of Section 98 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“She will have to wait until Mugabe vacates office and then she can sue him. Her chances of success are tremendous,” the former deputy justice minister said.

Since the fall-out with his deputy late last year, Mugabe has told all who care to listen that Mujuru tried to kill him through an assassination attempt, adding she was so desperate for power that she sought assistance from Nigerian traditional healers and apostolic sect fetish priests.

Mugabe told thousands gathered to mark his 91st birthday in Victoria Falls at the weekend that Mujuru had a two-pronged strategy to grab power from him, which allegedly included “shooting” him.

Describing the alleged plot as “foolish”, the Zimbabwean leader said he had been shocked that a war veteran like Mujuru could dabble in witchcraft.

“We managed to get information about what they were doing. Mujuru, a liberation war comrade who sinks so low to the extent of hiring the services of two Nigerians saying they were experts. Yes, experts in stealing from the foolish like you,” said Mugabe.

“She even hired some Nigerian n’angas, who ordered her to get 10 chickens and each was named after all of us who were believed to be against them.

“All the chickens were slaughtered in the belief that all of us including Amai Mugabe and [Vice President] Mnangagwa will not live up to this day.”

Mugabe added that Mujuru had gone through the ritual “topless with breasts hanging”.

In December, Mugabe told his party’s central committee that Mujuru had sought help from the Johanne Marange Apostolic sect to pray for her ascendancy to power before she was kicked out of both the party and government leadership.
