ZIMBABWE Women’s Soccer League administrator Theresa Maguraushe says there is excitement among the top clubs at the prospects of playing in National Super League set to roar into life this weekend.

The league is scheduled to kick off with 12 teams taking part and Maguraushe hopes the revival of the league will help women’s football.

“The regions have been playing their matches all along but nothing was going on at national level.

“Now we are going to get the National Super League getting underway this weekend and all the clubs and players are very excited. “There is enthusiasm among the teams and we hope the games will be as exciting and that some sponsors for the league and the clubs will come on board.

“Our players really want to get on with the games and I feel most of the teams are ready. We may face challenges as the league progresses but we are determined to get going,” she said.

The National Super League was last played nearly two years ago while most of high-profile action in women’s football had been limited to the national teams.

Now the ZWSL hope that the Mighty Warriors will have a bigger platform to select players for national duty.

“If all goes well, we hope to complete the games in December, but if more clubs join, our programme could spill into next year,” Maguraushe said.

She said the modalities of promotion and demotion will be worked out in due course. “We hope to get teams getting demoted to the regional leagues and also getting some to be promoted but that will be worked out.”

Flame Lily, Mufakose Queens, Cyclone Stars, Burrow Jets Ladies, Tenax Queens, Conduit Soccer Academy, Chipembere Queens, Black Rhinos Queens, Hwange Colliery Ladies, Faith Drive Queens, ZRP Harare Province and Auckland Queens form the National Super League.

Meanwhile, the ZSWSL have fixtured the belated NetOne Charity Shield between Black Rhinos and Inline Academy for tomorriw at Rufaro.
