The inaugural Fashion Forward runway show held over the weekend exposed talent that is vast among unheralded local designers.

The event, attended by fashion enthusiasts among other guests, was exciting as the 11 designers went all out with creative collections. On display were funk and urban wear ranging from causal, formal, to evening wear for men and women.

After over four hours , the judges who included Zimbabwe Fashion Week founder Priscilla Chigariro and ZFW emerging designer Tinashe “Znzorzi Adby” Phiri, finally announced the winners.

“Choosing the best designers was difficult as most of them had brilliant designs. However, there were factors that we looked at during the judging process and these are personality of the clothes, cohesiveness of the collections, structure, construction and the finishing on the garments,” said Chigariro as she announced the winners.

The overall winner was Sarudzai Murungu followed by Tafadzwa “Taf the Taylor”.

Because the duo are already showcasing at Zim Fashion Week this year, the opportunity was granted to the next best designers Natsai Mujuru and Kuda 7.

Mujuru’s Germs of Dune was the crowd’s favourite and it was not a surprise when her name was called out.

“I am numb. When my name was called out I was shocked. It was my first time to showcase my clothes and to perform at the fashion week,” she said.

Another outstanding designer was former Mafrique band member Tungamirai “Tunga T” Mavi.

Although he was not among the winners, Tunga T’s urban was unique as he experimented with fabric and colour.

He proved to be his own man by ignoring the current trends and relying on his creativity.

Songstress Cindy Munyavi stole the show just before the event ended, not only with her elegant singing but eye-catching outfit.

She flaunted her curves in skin tight leggings that had a black see through lace on both sides Nicky Minaj style.

Munyavi topped it off with a black lacy crop top that exposed parts of her torso.

Clad in stylish high heels, Cindy -performed some of her hit songs showcasing sexy dance moves.
