TOP allies of Vice-President Joice Mujuru in Mashonaland West, Political Commissar Webster Shamu and Sylvester Nguni were yesterday ordered not to attend the Zanu PF congress this week.

In Masvingo there were also reports that a vote of no confidence has been passed against Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and several members of the provincial executive, for allegedly being linked to Mujuru.

The Mashonaland West Provincial Coordinating Committee resolved that Shamu and Nguni be replaced by newly elected war veterans’ leader Christopher Mutsvangwa and Getrude Munzvandi. Mutsvangwa recently lost Central Committee elections in Norton to Bybit Tsomondo.

The meeting was punctuated with the “down with Gamatox” slogans in reference to Mujuru and Zanu PF secretary for administration, Didymus Mutasa. It resolved to bar from congress all members believed to have been backing Mujuru.

There was drama before the meeting when Mutsvangwa allegedly barred embattled Mashonaland West war veterans’ leader Takesure Chemhere from attending the meeting.

Mutsvangwa said as the national war vets leader, he doubted Chemhere’s war credentials and moreover, she was affiliated to the deposed Jabulani Sibanda.

In Masvingo, other provincial executive members who were ousted in votes of no confidence, include deputy Health and Childcare minister, Paul Chimedza and deputy minister of labour Tongai Muzenda.

This week Mujuru’s camp suffered heavy casualties with the latest being the booting out from the Zanu PF Women’s League of her ally, who was also secretary for the Commissariat, Olivia Muchena. Muchena is the minister of Higher Tertiary Education.

She was booted out along with four other members of the Women’s League, Abigail Damasane (secretary for Legal Affairs), Nyasha Chikwinya (secretary for Information and Publicity, Abigail Bwititi (secretary for Indigenisation, Empowerment and Economic Affairs), and Elizabeth Shongedza (secretary for Education).

There were also reports that war veterans and Zanu PF youths planned to physically bar Mujuru and her perceived allies from attending the December congress.
