National Association of School Heads netball champions Pamushana High are confident of defending their crown at the Stella Tea championships this weekend. The Nash championships are being sponsored to the tune of US$60 000 by Tanganda Tea Company and will get underway tomorrow at Nyamhunga School in Kariba where 12 schools will battle for the title.

They include Mwenezi, Nyamhunga, Highfield 1, Zimbira, Tsvingwe, Mawabeni and Mosi-oa-Tunya.

Johnson Madhuku, the Pamushana High School headmaster, said they were ready to defend their crown.

“Pamushana has won these championships for almost a decade now and this year it’s not going to be any different,” he said.

“We have no doubt that we will retain the title because we are the powerhouse in netball in Zimbabwe in both the Under-20 and Under-18 categories

“Our competition, maybe, is Mwenezi although last year we triumphed over them but we have a lot of respect for them and all the other competing schools.”

Madhuku, who is also the Nash president, said all was in place for the big event.

“This year we have entries from schools from rural set-ups such as Munene, which makes for a refreshing addition and also opens opportunities for them to put their schools on the map,” said Madhuku.

He hailed Tanganda for sponsoring the tournament.

“I cannot applaud or express my gratitude enough to Tanganda Tea for continuing to support the girl child through this annual competition.”

Participants will be given a kit and fuel while there will be prize money for the winning school and outstanding individuals.
