Police on Thursday quizzed the owner of the commuter omnibus that killed 10 people when it veered off the road and rammed a tree just after Trek Service Station along Seke Road on Monday morning. The owner, Mr Fortune Ganha, is likely to face criminal charges as investigations continue.

Mr Ganha was summoned by cops at Hatfield Police Station.

He was accompanied by his lawyer Mr Tungamirirai Takurira of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners. In an interview yesterday, Mr Takurira confirmed the developments.

“We were aised by the police of their intention to charge us yesterday (Thursday).

“We then went to Hatfield Police Station were a warned and cautioned statement was recorded,” he said.

He said he had not been given the charges his client was facing.

Indications are that the late Musiiwa Chanengeta (28), the driver of the kombi that killed the 10 people, did not meet statutory specifications to drive a public transport vehicle and the kombi was also not properly documented.

Police investigations showed that Chanengeta had a certificate of competency for a class two driver’s licence acquired six months ago.

Chanengeta’s waiting pass was taken to the Central Vehicle Registry to ascertain whether or not he had a valid driver’s licence.
