Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe has arrived in the country to join Malawians in the 50th Independence Anniversary Cerebrations on Sunday.

He arrived in Lilongwe on Saturday, 5 July at exactly 3.00 pm through the Kamuzu International Airport, in a Zimbabwean Airways.

Upon arrival he was warmly welcomed by the Vice President, Saulos Chilima, Commander of the Malawi Defense Force (MDF), General Ignasio Maulana, Inspector General of Police, Loti Dzodzi, Minister of Information and Tourism, Kondwani Nankhumwa and several top Government officials.

The Zimbabwean President then was given the Guard of Honour mounted by the Malawi Defence Force, inspected the smartly dressed troops.

President Mugabe before proceeding to Mtunthama State Lodge inspected the traditional dances performed by the Cultural Troupes who sang songs of welcome to the African son.

Also expected to arrive later today for the commemoration of the cerebrations is the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mohamed Garib Bilal.

Malawi commemorates 50 Years of Independence on Sunday 6th July and President Arthur Peter Mutharika is expected to lead the nation in the cerebrations starting with national prayers and main cerebrations in the afternoon at the Civo Stadium.
