Sungura musician Romeo Gasa is facing arrest after he allegedly stole a mobile phone and duped Ndlowane Super Sounds manager Assan Mandizvidza of US$1 600 cash in Mberengwa recently.

The case was reported at Mberengwa Police Station under case number RRB 2073633.

Mandizvidza, who doubles as Ndlowane Super Sounds manager and promoter of the show, confirmed the incident.

“We were supposed to share the money after three shows, but Gasa and his management vanished without giving us anything,” he said.

He said efforts to get in touch with the musician after the incident were fruitless as his mobile phone was unreachable prompting them to report the case to the police.

“One of our band members, Charles Ndebele, also found his mobile phone missing from behing the stage where he had left it during the performance and we are sure Gasa is responsible,” said Mandizvidza.

Mandizvidza said after they had calculated the money they got from three shows and agreed to share it. Gasa’s manager is alleged to have left the venue saying he wanted to get change at a nearby shop but did not return while the musician also disappeared.

“We had calculated all the money and we were supposed to share before they left for Harare but they vanished,” he said.

He said he had to call different musicians to ask about Gasa’s whereabouts.

“I called several musicians asking about his whereabouts because his mobile phones were not reachable,” he added. Gasa yesterday denied the allegations saying he had given them their money. He said they did not take anyone’s mobile phone when they left Mberengwa.

“I gave them their money and those allegations are false. In fact, these guys are not organised,” he said.

The “Kutanda Botso” singer, however, addimited that he was aware of the police report.

“I have talked to them and they said they are looking for my manager, not me, because in this case I am clean,” he said.

Gasa’s career has been blighted by controversy following counter-accusations with Diamond Studios boss Steady Munyanyi over allowances and remuneration.

Recently he was deserted by key band members who accused him of being greed and selfish.
