Newly established Miss Zimbabwe United Nations has embarked on a scouting drive for prospective candidates who will participate in the inaugural pageant that is scheduled for May 1 in Harare. National director for United Nations pageants Josey Mahachi said at this stage they were inviting interested models to collect entry forms online and various outlets in the country.

“Preparations for the pageant are on course and we are now inviting models to collect forms on our official Facebook page, Gotcha Nyama Restaurant in Harare and other centres that we will announce in due course,” she said.

The Click Africa regional television host said they had a different agenda with the pageant and with the emphasis being put on beauty and intelligence. “We are looking for girls who are aged between 20 and 29. The standard minimum weight and height of requirements apply and they should be single and never been married,” she said.

Mahachie said the pageant would be a small and intimate affair.

Two queens, Miss United Nations and Miss Tourism, will be crowned at the event that will be graced by surprise popular guests. She said the winners would also not be mere beauty queens but delegates representing the country in various international fora.

The world finals are scheduled for Jamaica. Finalists will be in camp from July 12 with the pageant taking place on the 18th.

“The pageant gives participants the opportunity to come together in a pageant setting regardless of background and build relations with fellow delegates.

“They constantly come together and share their community volunteer projects, offering each other solutions.

“This strengthens them to see beyond their immediate surroundings and situations and extending their services across the globe,” she said.
