Manyame Rural District Council has taken 24 families from Dizha Village in Seke to court seeking to stop them from building houses and to vacate the area within 21 days.

Council also wants the villagers to demolish what it terms illegal structures.

It alleges that the villagers contravened the Regional Town and Country Planning Act when they illegally built homes on a certain piece of land.

Mr David Dhumbura of Coghlan, Welsh and Guest Legal Practitioners is representing council while Mr Marufu Mandevere of Kadzere, Hungwe and Mandevere is representing the villagers.

Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa last Friday postponed the case to May 21 to allow the villagers to file their heads of arguments.

In its affidavit, council said it issued the respondents with an enforcement order on February 3 this year in terms of Section 32 of the Act.
