A HONDE woman stabbed her brother with knife and struck him with a metal bar on the head accusing him of causing a misfortune in her life so that she could not get married.

Ellen Marechera, 23, appeared before Magistrate Sekai Chiwundura facing charges of attempted murder as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Shepherd Chawarira told the court that Ellen and her brother Collins Marechera reside in the same Bracha village in Honde Chief Mutasa.

On the day in question, around 1200hours, Ellen went to Collin’s homestead and accused him of casting spell on her so that she could not get married.

The verbal altercation between the two degenerated into a fist fight.

Ellen reportedly took a metal object and hit Collins in the head thrice. The court heard that Ellen tried to stab Collin in the stomach but he blocked the attempt and was stabbed in left palm once. Collin sustained a deep cut on his left palm.

Asked why she tried to kill her brother over unsubstantiated claims, Ellen respondent: “Your Worship, I didn’t attempt to kill him but l went to his homestead to confirm if he was causing misfortunes in my life so that I don’t get married”.

Ellen was remanded in custody to April 5.
