A 21-year-old Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officer who is facing attempted murder charges for stabbing a teacher in the chest with a knife has been granted $50 bail.

Mutare magistrate Anniah Ndiraya remanded Tendai Chikohomere to May 22 for trial for stabbing Edmore Mukokeri at a local pub.

Mukokeri is still recovering from the wound.

Chikohomere is also facing an assault charge after biting another patron who was trying to restrain him from fighting Mukokeri.

Prosecutor Douglas Mutiure told the court that on April 27, Chikohomere and Mukokeri were playing snooker at Sparks Bar at Magada Business Centre in a local high density suburb when a misunderstanding arose over tokens.

The ZNA officer then shoved Mukokeri before suddenly stabbing him in the chest.

A friend tried to rescue Mukokeri but was bitten by the solider on the right hand and he sustained a deep wound.
