MUTARE: A student teacher at Mutare Teacher’s College was dragged before the magistrate courts facing charges of stealing two perfumes and a packet of cigarettes worth $10 from Spar Supermarket.

Leroy Banda, 22, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared before magistrate Langton Mukwengi on Thursday.

He was fined $20.

Asked why he stole the perfume, Banda said: “Your Worship I wanted to smell nice and I was broke”.

Prosecutor Douglas Matiure told the court that on Monday last week, Banda entered Spar Supermarket and stole two perfumes (Adidas and Intesa) and a packet of Dunhill cigarettes and hid them in his shirt.

He went to the till where he only paid for a soft drink and left.

He was arrested by an alert security guard at the exit door and everything was recovered.
