PRETTY Xaba, known as Mai-Muvengwa in the Zimbabwean TV soap Studio 263, has died.

Xaba died Saturday afternoon at the BLK Super Speciality Hospital in New Dehli in India where she was being treated for cancer. She was diagnosed with the Cancer of the oesophagus in September and in October she flew to India for the surgery which was, however, delayed after experts observed that the tumour had grown bigger.

Dr Brighton Chireka, a medical director at Stark Meditrip, the company which facilitated her trip to India, confirmed that the popular actress had died. Dr Chireka said Xaba died while she was in the intensive care unit where she had completed her chemotherapy in preparation for the operation.

He said: ‘It is sad that after her lovely family and friends had tried all they could to save her all their efforts failed at the last minute’.

Dr Chireka said a Stark Meditrip team based in India was in the process of working out how the body will be transported back to Zimbabwe for burial. Stark Meditrip, which has offices in India and London, specialises in arranging treatments for Zimbabweans in both countries.

Xaba acted in many local dramas including the famous Ndebele series titled Xola. She was to become more prominent as Mai-Muvengwa or Nakabantwana in Studio 263.
