Dendera musician Suluman Chimbetu says his recent tour of South Africa was a fascinating experience. The musician, who stages a “welcome home” show at Airport Lounge tomorrow, performed in Johannesburg and Cape Town last weekend with Winky D and Nox.

Speaking through his publicist Joe “Local” Nyamungoma, Sulu – as Chumbetu is affectionately known – said both shows were exciting although the Cape Town leg ended in commotion after fans protested saying the show had ended prematurely.

Show organisers had booked the venue up to 4am and this did not go down well with fans that wanted to dance to dendera music until daylight.

“People wanted us to go on with the show but there is nothing we could do since the venue was booked up to 4am. We had to end the show although the crowd protested and caused commotion. Police had to be called to restore order,” said Nyamungoma.

“The incident showed us that people were hungry for our music and we are happy that our fans still want more from us.

“Both shows were good and people really enjoyed the gigs. We enjoyed performing for such supportive people and we are looking forward to another tour of South Africa soon.”

Turning to tomorrow’s Airport Lounge show, Nyamungoma said they returned home rejuvenated to serve their local fans.

“We missed our local fans and we will deliver the best. The tour was a refresher and we are rejuvenated. We promise a good show.”
