Upcoming sungura musician, Allan Manjoro, has released his debut album titled “Gehena”. The musician is not new in the music industry as he has previously shared the stage with a number of celebrated artistes as lead vocalist and guitarist, which saw him engaging in dozens of opening acts for superstars who include Leonard Zhakata, Somandla Ndebele and Hosiah Chipanga.

Manjoro said he started his musical career at a tender age as he used to stay with musician Major Green Chareka.

“I got enthralled by Chareka and his band whom I used to stay with since childhood. Every day they used to practice for hours so there was no way I could not get involved in music as it was my daily routine to grab Chareka’s guitar during their break and practice by myself.

“As I grew up I met Misheck Sithole and Loyd Gonye who became my mentors and I started to play for Somandla Ndebele’s band.

“Eventually, I got better in playing the guitar until musician, Terrence Benhura, got me into his band until I decided to go solo in 2013,” he said.

The 30-year-old former Harare High School student has appealed to well-wishers to assist him and his Super Melodies band in acquiring recording material and instruments as he is looking forward to opening up his own recording studio.

“The main problems that my band and I are currently facing is lack of recording materials due to monetary constraints as we have been restricted in our mission to ascertain our own name in the Zimbabwe music industry.

“We greatly value any form of aid from established musicians and promoters who can assist us financially or materially as we know we can achieve our goal if only we overcome these obstacles,” he added.

The musician’s four-track album consists of tracks “Biyona”, “Gapu Rerudo”, “Mashoko Anokonzeresa” and the title track “Gehena” which is already receiving airplay on Radio Zimbabwe.
