AN enraged Bulawayo taxi driver ran amok at a police station and head butted an officer who had arrested him for flouting traffic regulations.

Khulumani Ndlovu, who operates in the city centre, was arrested for ‘dangerous’ parking.

Upon arrest Ndlovu was ordered to proceed to the Bulawayo Central police station where he allegedly got involved in an altercation with the arresting officer leading to him losing his cool and head butting the cop.

Ndlovu, who was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Sibongile Marondedze, was remanded in custody to March 13.

According to the state, Ndlovu, on February 22, in the early hours of the morning, parked his taxi cab at corner Robert Mugabe Way and 10th Avenue.

Nyasha Chinyama, a police officer who was on patrol duty, spotted Ndlovu’s dangerously parked vehicle and ordered him to drive to the central police station.

On arrival at the police station, a misunderstanding ensued between Ndlovu and the police officer. Ndlovu, the court heard, then became violent resulting in him head butting Chinyama in the mouth, leaving the cop with a deep cut.

Ndlovu was immediately detained.
