A MWENEZI man apologized to the family of a 14 year old girl a day after he had raped her before handing himself to the police, a local court heard.

Simon Nenzira, 26, appeared before regional magistrate Judith Zulu on Wednesday charged with rape and was remanded in custody to March 27 for continuation of trial.

Prosecutor Tinaye Matenga told the court that on December 13, last year at about around 20:00 hours, the minor was outside her bedroom reading books using a mobile phone light and in the company of her 3 year old young sister.

The court heard that Nenzira came and grabbed the minor’s left hand and threatened her with an unknown object.

Matenga said the minor was dragged to a nearby bush where she was raped.

The girl’s uncle, who could not locate his niece and found her books scattered all over the yard, then heard voices from a nearby bush.

He went to investigate only to find Nenzira on top of the girl

Realising that he had been discovered, Nenzira fled into the darkness but he was positively identified by the uncle.

The court heard that the following morning Nenzira visited the family’s homestead and apologized for his vile act before fleeing the area.

A report was made to the police and, after learning that a docket had been opened for him, Nenzira went and surrendered to the cops.
