A SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Gweru teenager appeared in court last Wednesday after he throttled his 25-year-old brother in a domestic dispute.

The teenager, from Mkoba Village 15, appeared before Gweru magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, for initial remand.

Charged with murder, he was asked not to plead and was remanded out of custody to July 21.

The prosecutor, Daniel Tafuma, told the court that the teenager intervened in an attempt to restrain his late brother when he was assaulting their niece on June 29 this year.

Angered by the intervention, the elder brother stopped assaulting his niece and began venting his anger on his younger sibling.

Tafuma said the teenager then throttled his brother and the two fell down with the accused’s right hand still on the deceased’s throat.

The elder brother lost consciousness and was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival.

A post-mortem report shows that he died died as a result of asphyxia (suffocation).

Tafuma said the post-mortem results will be used as evidence when the trial opens at the High Court.

He added that the accused was also seen fighting with the now deceased on the fateful day.
