FRIENDS and relatives of the late Patrick Chauruka, who died in the United States last week, have appealed to well-wishers to help repatriate his remains to Zimbabwe.

Patrick died instantly last Thursday after allegedly jumping in front of a subway train in the Bronx.

“Due to circumstances we could not prevent, we have lost our beloved Patrick Chauruka who died on July 17th, 2014 in the Bronx, New York, USA,” friends and family members coordinating the appeal said in a statement at the weekend.

“Patrick allegedly jumped in front of a subway 4 train at Moshulu Parkway station in the Bronx around 5pm and died instantly.

“After the company Patrick worked for, for six years went out of business in February, Patrick was without a job since then and left no financial resources to cover his funeral costs.

“Patrick had one blood relative (cousin) in the USA, who also has just lost her mother for which the funeral and travel cost her close to $20,000. Since December 2013, Patrick and his family lost five loved ones. In addition, none of Patrick’s siblings and parents work and have no source of income.

“Patrick was the breadwinner of his extended family in Zimbabwe. This coming so unexpectedly, we at this time are unable to pay for services, repatriation and burial without your assistance.”

Patrick was described as a “very loving and generous person” who always “went out of his way to do whatever he could for his friends and family”.

“Any financial assistance will be greatly appreciated. Patrick leaves behind an adorable daughter.”
