THE MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has denounced the Bulawayo City Council over the municipality’s decision to impose pre-paid water meters on residents without consultations.

The criticism came soon after Tsvangirai said the Bulawayo municipality was the best run in the country.

Addressing journalists at the Bulawayo Press club on Wednesday evening, Tsvangirai accused the council of introducing the meters without his blessings.

“My position on this issue has always been clear. Even the mayor knows this,” said Tsvangirai.

The former PM urged the council to listen to the residents and address their concerns over the issue.

“If something is being resisted it means there is a serious problem with the issue. Instead of imposing the project on residents, you should go back to them and find out why they are resisting”.

In December last year, the council resolved to introduce the controversial water meters despite stiff resistance from the residents.

About 20 Bulawayo pressure groups took to the streets demonstrating against the move.

Apart from Bulawayo, other MDC-T run cities such as Gweru and Harare have also expressed their interest in the controversial project.
