TWO women from Mahusekwa in Marondera rural will this week appear in court facing charges of infanticide after they were arrested for conniving to strangle to death a newly born baby girl.

Marondera East police spokesperson Inspector Norbert Muzondo said on 22 November, Melody Munofa, 26, gave birth with the assistance of Angela Mapfumo, 48.

However, after successfully delivering the baby, they hatched a plan to strangle it to death and buried the body in a nearby anthill.

The two women’s luck ran out when one of the villagers who was trapping some flying ants on the anthill came across the baby’s remains. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the two.

Inspector Muzondo urged members of the public to respect the sanctity of life and desist from killing innocent babies.
