A 19-year-old woman, who is doing community service for assault, was back in court yesterday on fresh allegations of the same offence after she reportedly stabbed a man with a broken bottle at Kuwadzana 2 Bar. Samantha Kumbirai, who was convicted of assault early this year, appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma.

Ms Tshuma remanded her in custody to today for trial continuation.

Kumbirai admitted to stabbing Trinity Nechinanga (28), but told the court that it was an act of self-defence.

“Yes, I stabbed him, but it was because he had attacked me first,” she said.

“He used a bottle to stab me on my back. He also assaulted me all over my body using open hands claiming that I was courting boyfriends for his girlfriend.”

The prosecutor Ms Miriam Chiba alleged that on January 6 at around 3am at Kuwadzana 2 Bar, Kumbirai had a misunderstanding with a friend and they started fighting.

She said Nechinanga tried to restrain the two, but Kumbirai allegedly picked an empty bottle and stabbed him multiple times on the back.

Nechinanga sustained serious injuries and later made a report to the police, leading to Kumbirai’s arrest.
