11 upcoming artistes benefited from a week long workshop on vocal and performance arts training held at Lake Chivero last week in a bid to improve music quality in arts industry.

The artistes were drawn from various areas like Harare, Marondera, Gweru, Bindura, Kadoma and Beitbridge and they completed the training on Friday.

The workshop was organised by Afro jazz singer Alexio Kawara, Pax Gomo and Dereck Mpofu who jointly formed Pad Arts which is meant to groom talent in upcoming artistes at grassroots level.

The “Shaina” hit-maker said they decided to combine forces and help fellow artistes how to write songs, record, handle vocals.

“Our aim is to help upcoming artistes in different areas that can help them get established.

“I was focusing on song writing and Dereck was teaching on vocals while Pax was concentrated on grooming matters.

“We ran the workshop from Monday to Friday and we are happy that the artistes are now well equipped about music,” he said.

Kawara said the artistes are recording their songs this week and they will be performing with them during their shows.

“This week we are recording the artistes. They are recording two songs as a group and a single track each which we will launch at a later date.

“We are going to feature them during our live shows so that they get known in the music circles,” he said.

Gospel musician Pax encouraged the upcoming music artistes to be disciplined and focus on their career.

“I believe we have talent in our youngsters but what is affecting them is discipline.

“It is painful that they are dying at a tender age that is why we were mentoring these one to be different if they want to excel in this life and make it big music wise,” he said.
