A GWANDA magistrate has issued a warrant of arrest against a nurse who is suspected to have skipped the country after he failed to turn up in court to answer to charges of raping a 15 year old school girl.

Bekezela Moyo (38), employed by the Lutheran run Manama Hospital, did not show up despite his name being called out three times forcing the magistrate to issue a warrant of arrest.

Moyo was last week released from remand prison after securing a $50 bail.

Allegations against Moyo are that sometime in October last year he was on duty when the girl from Manama High School visited her sick friend who had been admitted at the hospital.

Moyo proposed love to the juvenile and she accepted. Later in the month, Moyo lured the girl to his house.

He asked to be intimate with the girl promising to secure her employment in Australia once she completed her studies but she refused.

Moyo then forced himself on the girl and had unprotected sexual intercourse with her. Thereafter he gave her a morning-after pill to prevent pregnancy.

The matter came to light through an anonymous letter leading to the arrest of Moyo.

He faces a lengthy jail term if convicted.
