ZIMBABWE’S World’s Welterweight Boxing Champion (WBC)) and Africa Union Boxing king, Charles Manyuchi, at times feels like disowning his country of birth because of the lack of support from government.

He might switch allegiances to Zambia where he feels he is more appreciated.

“I want to thank the Zambians because they have been supporting me and now I’m even embarrassed of constantly thanking them as if I’m Zambian. I think Zimbabwe should do something because as it stands it is Zambia who are doing everything for me. Zambia is the best. I think they deserve to have me as a citizen,” Manyuchi said.

He said nonetheless he would not change his citizenship even though “Zambia deserves to have me because of the way they are supporting me.”

“I feel like I don’t have a country of my own. I won’t shy from saying there has been nothing in terms of sponsorship from the government, not even a single cent. The last time they promised me heaven and earth, but I didn’t get even dust. It’s so sad,” Manyuchi said.

He claims the only support he received from his country came though a donation of 100-litre petrol to enable him travel.

He will travel by road from Lusaka, the Zambia capital to defend his world title on March 28.

Manyuchi is Zimbabwe’s reigning Sportsperson of the Year having collected the world and African top boxing accolades.
