South African Afro-soul sensation, Zahara is billed to perform at two concerts in Zimbabwe to raise funds for Tokwe Mukosi flood victims.

The “Phendula” songstress will be accompanied by South Africa-based Zimbabwean singer Lingiwe and the duo together with a selection of local artists they will stage two concerts to help raise funds for the Tokwe Mukosi victims. The Green Concerts which are to be held in Harare and Bulawayo are to run under the theme “Remembering Tokwe Mukosi: One Environmental Family” .

Mr Green Ambassador Dereck Mpofu said their main focus was on the welfare of the environment and they had taken up the challenge to assist victims of Tokwe Mukosi with provisions.

“Our aim is to safeguard the environment for a better future because the livelihood of humans is entirely based on a safe environment and that begins with you and me.

“As such we saw it necessary to extend a helping hand to those who fell victims to the floods which is why we are staging the two concerts,” he said.

Mpofu said they decided to rope in Zahara because of the following she commands in Zimbabwe as well as her desire to be part of the worthy cause.

“Zahara is a world class performer and more importantly she has shown so much zeal to participate in this worthy cause. On the 8th of May Zahara will be participating on our Clean Up campaign in Avondale to show her commitment for the environment as well as encouraging the world on the needs to protect our environment.” The award winning song bird will share the stage with local artists such as Willis Watafi, Cynthia Mare and many more.

If successful, the Green Concert initiative should come in handy for the victims of the floods who have not been able to get as much help as expected with several non-governmental organisations choosing to give a blind eye to their plight.
