A ZANU PF Midlands provincial Women’s League member was this week slapped with a wholly suspended sentence for pouncing on her sister’s neck after she had failed to obey her orders to go to the shops.

Girlie Marongwe of Lundi Park, Gweru, grabbed her young sister Ashley Marongwe’s neck after she returned home from a bar and found Ashley had not gone to the shops.

Magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, sentenced Marongwe to two months in prison for physically assaulting her sister before wholly suspending the sentence for five years on condition of good behaviour.

It was the state’s case that on the 15th January this year, Marongwe sent Ashley to Chirandu business centre in Senga.

When Marongwe returned home from the bar at around seven in the evening she learnt that her sister had not gone to the shops and nobody had prohibited her from doing so.

Out of anger, Marongwe pounced on Ashley’s neck saying she was a “child of a prostitute”.

A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the ZANU PF activist.
