LOSING ZANU PF candidate for Hatfield constituency Acie Lumumba is abusing party youths by coercing them to give him a hero’s welcome at the Harare International Airport.

On Wednesday Lumumba bussed about 20 youths to wait for him at the airport.

As he emerged, the hungry looking youths swarmed the arrival lounge much to the amusement of people who had come to welcome their friends and relatives.

The youths wore t-shits emblazoned with pictures of President Robert Mugabe and Lumumba.

At the back the t-shits were written TEAM LUMUMBA2018. The youths also wore green and red caps inscribed with the same message in white.

Lumumba’s supporters tried to sing but were quickly told to shut-up by security personnel manning the arrival lounge.

Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com one youth said they were at the airport to welcome their ‘leader’ who had gone to South Africa.

“He is arriving by South African Airways at 12:20 p.m. and we are here to give him a hero’s welcome,” she said but refused to give her name.

Asked to explain whether Lumumba had gone for constituency business that would benefit them, the youth said she did not know the purpose of the trip.

When Lumumba arrived some of his supporters rushed to greet him while others scrambled to carry his small suitcase with two youths going each side as if to provide him security.

In typical ZANU style Lumumba addressed his supporters outside the arrival lounge for about three minutes and thanked them for their ‘continued’ support.

In Zimbabwe one is not allowed to address a political gathering without notifying the police in terms of the Public Order Security Act (POSA).

The drama was not far from over because the airport rank marshals were on the verge on clamping Lumumba’s white twin cab for wrong parking when one youth lied saying his eccentric boss was a Member of Parliament for Hatfield.

As NewZimbabwe.com tried to obtain a comment from Lumumba on why he was being welcomed by the youths VIP style, he sped off.

The youths followed in a green and white commuter omnibus.

Lumumba was trounced by MDC-T’s Tapiwa Mashakada in the 2013 harmonised elections to represent Hatfield constituency.
