ZAPU has threatened to take telecommunications giant, Econet Wireless, to court for allegedly blocking an Ecocash Biller account which the party opened with the company last year in April.

According to documents in NewZimbabwe.com’s possession, sometime last year in April, ZAPU approached Econet Wireless offices in Bulawayo with the intention of opening an ecocash account where party members and well-wishers would deposit money meant to buy a vehicle for the organisation.

The party opened an Ecocash Biller account (Code 58406) on aice.

After opening the account party members, including those from the diaspora, started depositing money into the account but after a few days the account was closed under circumstances which the party says have yet to be explained.

The party has since approached its lawyers in a bid to recover the money.

Meanwhile suspected state security agents on Thursday hacked Zapu’s official website, forcing the party officials to temporarily close the website pending investigations and maintenance of the site.

Spokesperson Patrick Ndlovu told NewZimbabwe.com Friday that the party’s website was illegally infiltrated by yet to be identified hackers.

“The hacking has affected our party business. We can no longer communicate vital party information to our supporters who are dotted all over the country and the world,” said Ndlovu.

The Zapu spokesperson said the party gly suspected that the hacking was politically motivated.

“We gly suspect that this hacking is meant to destabilize preparations for our women and youth congresses which will be held in April ahead of the main congress which we are planning to hold in August this year,” said Ndlovu.

Following the hacking, Ndlovu said, members can no longer have access to information concerning the forthcoming events.
