A ZIMBABWE Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) producer, Gertrude Mugarisanwa is suspected to have committed suicide at her Greenhill house in Bulawayo on Sunday afternoon.

According to workmates, Mugarisanwa, 53, was found hanging from the roof of a family cottage around mid-day Sunday mid-day.

“Sisi Getty hanged herself on Sunday. We still do not know the reason why she took her life. She was a very loving and caring person,” one workmate told Newzimbabwe.com.

Mugarisanwa is said to have quietly excused herself from the main house to the family’s cottage where she was later found by her husband, a lecturer at the National University of Science and Technology, hanging from the roof.

Sources at the State broadcaster said Mugarisanwa had, two weeks ago, tried to resign from her employment although she later reconsidered her decision.

Her decision was apparently influenced by her not feeling well at the time, workmates said.

Bulawayo police Assistant Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the suspected suicide but said they were investigating the mysterious death, since she did not leave any suicide note.

Mugarisanwa was promoted producer in 2002 after having worked as a secretary for a long time.

Up to her death, she was producer of a programme called Catch Them Young.

The late broadcaster is survived by her husband and children.
