THE Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation is the country’s weapon in defence of its resources and the right to self determination, a senior Government official has said.Director for the National Youth Service in the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Cde Francis Potai said it was important for every Zimbabwean to carry the gospel of the economic blueprint to every corner of the country.

Cde Potai was speaking at a Zim-Asset sensitisation workshop in Gokwe-Nembudziya constituency organized by area MP, Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena at the weekend.

Government heads of departments in Gokwe North district, councillors and Zanu-PF district chairpersons in the constituency attended the two-day meeting.

These leaders are expected to then teach lower structures in the constituency.

“Zim-Asset is our shield in the fight for our economy against people from Western countries who want to come here and take our resources,” he said.

“Zim-Asset was crafted for the whole country but you as people of Gokwe you have your specific needs in the implementation of this economic blueprint.

“The ideology in this document is that of self-sustenance. Zim-Asset talks about the need for us to make sure we have adequate and nutritious food from the family level while surplus will then be availed for needy areas.”

Cde Potai said all Zimbabweans must try to fulfil the objectives of Zim-Asset in honour of President Mugabe, whose vision of economically empowering them must not go to waste.

He said relying on foreign aid from Western countries was unsustainable adding that they used aid to pursue their own interests.

Cde Wadyajena said Zim-Asset was another step toward achieving economic independence following the land redistribution exercise and the Indigenisation and economic empowerment programmes.

He said he found it prudent to bring Cde Potai — an expert who would explain the objectives of Zim-Asset so that they would also take the message to every corner of the constituency.

“We know most of you have heard about Zim-Asset but maybe do not understand what it means. That is why we brought Cde Potai so that he explains to you as leaders so that you can then take the message to others.

“Let us be serious about this document because it will guide us in how we can achieve economic independence and how we can uplift our livelihoods,” said Cde Wadyajena.

He distributed some Zim-Asset documents to leaders who attended the workshop.

Chief Nembudziya implored everyone in the constituency to unite and ensure the goals of Zim-Asset are achieved.

He said it was important for everyone to understand what Zim-Asset was all about.
