Vice President Joice Mujuru has likened Zim-Asset to the war of liberation that was won against all odds. Addressing the Masvingo Zanu-PF Provincial Women’s League Inter-District Conference last week, VP Mujuru said some people initially thought nationalists who took up arms in the Second Chimurenga would not triumph but they succeeded under difficult circumstances.

In attendance were provincial Women’s League chair Cde Shylet Uyoyo, Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chair Cde Callistos Gwanetsa and other high-ranking party and Government officials.

The meeting was themed “Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hand — Proverbs 14 verse 14”.

“When we went to war no-one thought that we were going to win but against all odds, we triumphed. By the same token, Zim-Asset will succeed the way we did in the war of liberation.

“Vamwe vaitoti hondo iyi haiwinike asi tikakunda. Ndizvo zvakafanana neZim-Asset. We won the war when others thought we would fail,” said VP Mujuru.

She called on women to be proactive and initiate developmental projects in their communities.

“When Government programmes are introduced to assist women they should find you having covered some distance.

“It is folly to think that women only depend on handouts. Women have sharp brains that can establish businesses where there is nothing.

“Women are very clever and they cannot die of hunger even after the death of their spouses-they are hardworking in nature,” she said.

VP Mujuru said women should be Zim-Asset’s primary drivers.

“We have seen women taking care of their husband’s children and even assume the fatherly role after death.

“The children would not fail to finish their education simply because their father has died but women will take the baton and continue educating the children,” she said.

VP Mujuru said women should not wait on the temporary assistance of non-governmental organisations.
