Outgoing Japanese Ambassador Yonezo Fukuda said Zimbabwe’s future looks bright if the country’s huge base of human capital domiciled in the diaspora comes back to work for their motherland. Speaking after bidding President Mugabe farewell at State House in Harare yesterday, Ambassador Fukuda said Zimbabwe was endowed with vast natural resources that could be exploited to turn around the country’s economic fortunes.

“The future of Zimbabwe is bright because you have a lot of resources and good weather,” he said. “Human capital is very educated and if they come back to work together, there is a big possibility to develop.”

Ambassador Fukuda described his meeting with President Mugabe as fruitful saying discussions centred on future relations between Harare and Tokyo.

“We had a very nice talk with the President (Mugabe) and for our future development, Japan will be always together with Zimbabwe,” he said. Ambassador Fukuda said he told the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces that Tokyo was interested in investing in the agriculture and infrastructure sectors.
