Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe received Friday in Harare Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel, bearer of a message from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

“I was tasked by President Bouteflika to pass on a message of friendship to Mugabe as President of Zimbabwe and current President of the African Union (AU). On this occasion, I reiterate to him the invitation of President Bouteflika to pay a State visit to Algeria,” Messahel told the press following the audience granted to him by President Mugabe.

He added that Algeria and Zimbabwe “agreed to hold a meeting of their joint commission in the 2nd half of 2015.”

During this audience, Messahel informed President Mugabe, in his capacity as AU’s President, of Algeria’s efforts in reaching political and peaceful solutions to the crises in the neighbouring countries, particularly Mali and Libya.

Concerning Western Sahara, Messahel said that he exchanged with Zimbabwe’s President views about this issue, pointing out the “important” role played by the African organisation in the settlement of this issue in accordance with the United Nations doctrine and the founding principle of the African Union, that of peoples’ right to self-determination.
