IN a rare turn of events, President Robert Mugabe will officially open the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair after Congo Brazzaville President Dennis Sausso Nguesso canceled a visit to the country at the last minute.

Nguesso was scheduled to officially open the event on Friday.

In the absence of Nguema, Mugabe will open the fair, which is one of the biggest trading exhibitions in the region.

Over the years, a visiting Head of State or Government, has officially opened the international expo.

CAJ News was reliably informed that Nguesso pulled out to attend a regional meeting in Angola, where regional leaders will discuss the situation in the Central African Republic, a country that has been plagued by civil unrest.

ZITF organizers refused to shed more light on the turn of events saying Government who was handling the matter.

A spokesperson for the company however said a full company delegation from Congo Brazzaville was taking part at the event.

“We are happy because the delegation from Congo Brazzaville is here,” said the spokesperson.

Industry and Commerce Minister Mike Bimha said he could only confirm that President Mugabe will officially open the show.

Coincidentally, the fair began in Bulawayo on Tuesday on a low note.

Exhibitors said business was low on the first day but they expected more inquiries as the show progress.

Some of the exhibitors were still putting final touches to their stands.

The exhibition runs concurrently with Bulawayo Agriculture Show, which is expected to peak after a good agricultural season.
