SAUL Chaminuka is optimistic that ZPC Kariba will host matches in the resort town in five weeks time when renovations at Nyamhunga are completed. The Kariba side have been forced to use Gwanzura as their base.

It means that the fans in Kariba, who backed their team in its successful Division One campaign, are yet to see them play a Premiership game in their backyard.

“It’s surface is almost through and they are now working on the dressing rooms,” Chaminuka told The Herald yesterday.

“Maybe in five weeks time the team would be playing at Nyamhunga.”

Chaminuka.returns to Buffaloes this weekend when high-flying ZPC Kariba face his former paymasters and the gaffer says it’s going to be an emotional visit for him.

He left the club in a huff midway through the season last year to join CAPS United as an assistant coach before he joined newboys ZPC Kariba during the pre-season.

The Kariba-based side have posted two wins and a draw in three matches.

“This is a tough game because the majority of the players there are part of the team that I had last season,” said Chaminuka.

“They really know my type of football and I also know them very well. We parted ways well and going back there the first thing is to get maximum points and I also want to show them that since I left I have grown.

“If I lose, yes, it’s part of football but we will go down fighting.”

Chaminuka said it was important that they pick some points early in the league race.

“We want to continue winning. If our team is going to survive relegation it is important that we can pick points early in the season as fatigue will catch up with us given that we do a lot of travelling than any other team,” he said.
