FIRED up ZPC Kariba tore Bulawayo giants Highlanders into smothers in a Castle Lager Premeirship tie at Hartsfield yesterday as they reduced the gap between leaders and champions Dynamos and them to just two points. Led by veteran striker Limited Chikafa, who scored a brace, the electricity men shot into the lead as early as the second minute through Pride Tafirenyika after winger Rahman Kutsanzira lost possession on the edge of the box.

A number of fans were still making their way into the stadium when the debutants struck.

Kutsanzira made amends in the 21st minute when he connected a Charles Sibanda corner to bring the home team level.

Chikafa’s two goals arrived in the 53rd minute and 60th minute and ensured the visitors went back home with maximum points while condemning Highlanders to their second defeat on the trot after last week’s 0-1 loss to Harare City.

Former CAPS United hitman Chikafa’s second goal was a beauty after he reacted quicker than Erick Mudzingwa before unleashing a first time volley on the run that beat Ariel Sibanda who was off his line.

The visitors showed very little respect for their opponents and played as if they were the home side while Bosso resorted to desperate measures of kick and run football.

“Our game plan was to shut out Highlanders’ wing backs and also to separate them from their supporters. We knew that if we get an early goal and play frustrating football, their supporters would turn against them and that’s exactly what happened,” said Chikafa.

Chikafa gave Bosso’s left back Bruce Kangwa anxious moments throughout the match and Kaindu did not have an answer to his exploits on the wings.

Instead the Zambian pulled out Joel Ngodzo for Pasca Manhanga in the 63rd minute but still the move failed to yield any dividends as the visitors kept on pilling the pressure in search of a fourth goal.

Ozias Zibande was the next to be introduced in the 74th minute for Simbarashe Sithole but by then the damage had been done.

“The guys absorbed the pressure very well,” said an elated Chaminuka who left for Botswana soon after the game yesterday to take charge of the Zimbabwe Under-23 international friendly match against Botswana tomorrow.
