HARARE, Feb 8 — State Councillor of the Peoples’ Republic of China Yang Jiechi is expected in the country on Sunday for an official visit.

During his visit, Yang is expected to pay a courtesy call on Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko as well as hold talks with President Robert Mugabe at State House on Monday.

Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe Lin Lin said the visit by Yang will enhance cooperation between the two countries.

“Chinese state Councillor will pay an official visit to Zimbabwe starting from this coming Sunday. During his visit, he will meet with President Mugabe and hold official talks with VP Mphoko to comprehensively exchange views on our current financial relations,” he said.

Lin said the talks will also focus on exploring new ways of cooperation between Zimbabwe and China.

“I am confident that with joint cooperation from both sides, this visit will be a great success and will put more momentum to the already fast growing China- Zimbabwe relations,” said Lin.

China is now one of the most important economic partners to Zimbabwe. The two countries have over the years enjoyed frequent political exchanges, with the most important one being the state visit by President Mugabe to China in August last year.

Trade between Zimbabwe and China grew marginally to $1.1 billion last year as economic ties between the two countries grew on the back of mega deals signed when President Mugabe visited the Asian economic giant.
