Detsekorpe Chief Organises Free NHIS Card Registration and Renewal for Community.

Ada: Nene Verya Ozor II, Chief of Detsekorpe in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region, has spearheaded an initiative to provide free National Health Insurance (NHIS) registration and card renewal for community members. The initiative extended its reach to benefit residents of neighboring communities such as Asigbekorpe, Tugakorpe, Kpodokorpe, Kasseh, and more. According to Ghana News Agency, the initiative was driven by Nene Ozor, who is not only the chief but also a health worker. He observed that many individuals visiting health centers and hospitals faced financial difficulties in enrolling or renewing their NHIS membership, often turning to him for assistance. This recurring issue prompted him to organize the exercise to ensure more people could access the NHIS system. Nene Ozor expressed his commitment to conducting this exercise annually, emphasizing his dedication to serving the community and improving the overall health and well-being of its members. He stated, "I will try and do this ev ery year to help my people. I am here to serve them, and so I will do everything in my power to make sure they are healthy, strong, and poised to make a change in the community." He also urged community members to support each other to foster unity, peace, and stability. The initiative received praise for its execution despite challenges such as the rain, with Nene Ozor commending the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) officials for their dedication and timely work. Mr. Emmanuel Nyame, Public Relations Officer for NHIA in the Dangme East District, shared with the Ghana News Agency that the exercise successfully enrolled approximately one hundred individuals into the NHIS system, while around two hundred members renewed their cards. He highlighted that the initiative, which covered all costs, significantly benefited individuals of all ages. A beneficiary, Mr. Raphael Doetse, recounted how the renewal brought relief after he had to pay a substantial medical bill due to an expired NHIS membership fol lowing a motor accident. Other beneficiaries utilized the opportunity to renew cards for relatives whose memberships had lapsed.
