Families of arrested political opponents lodged Wednesday a complaint with the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights to demand their immediate release, said member of the Defence Collective Mokhtar Jemaai.

These families appointed a foreign lawyer, Jemaai further told TAP. Most of the arrestees belong to Ennahdha.

Former parliament speaker and Ennahdha President Rached Ghannouchi is among the detainees. He was apprehended in April and sentenced on May 15 to one year in prison for " apology of terrorism."

The Head of State said on many occasions that detainees were most likely involved in "a plot against the State."
