FORMER ETHIOPIAN P.M. LEADING AU POLLS MISSION TO ZIMBABWE

ADDIS ABABA-- Former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has left for Zimbabwe to head the African Union (AU) Election Observation Mission to Zimbabwe which is holding its presidential, legislative and local council elections on July 30.

The AU Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) will closely observe and report about the election in Zimbabwe.

Hailemariam was appointed to lead the mission by the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.

The AU said in a statement that the election observation will be conducted in accordance with the AU Charter, Declaration, Guidelines of Elections as well as Zimbabwe's Constitution and legal framework for elections.
