GIMPA Law Students Peace Forum Gains Backing from JP Trustees and Good Causes Foundation.

Accra: Oil marketing company JP Trustees and the Good Causes Foundation of the National Lottery Authority have provided support for the maiden GIMPA Law School Pledge, named 'Peace through Democracy', aimed at the 2024 election. According to Ghana News Agency, the event was hosted by the GIMPA Law Students Association in collaboration with the GIMPA Law School to promote peace, unity, and constitutional responsibility ahead of the December 7, 2024 polls. Mr. Desmond Israel, representing the Dean of GIMPA Law School, Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Budu, addressed dignitaries and students, stressing that law students hold a significant responsibility beyond academics. He noted that their role includes shaping a society rooted in law, order, and mutual respect, describing the Peace Forum as timely. Mr. Israel emphasized that the Peace Pledge initiative reflects responsibility and dedication to fostering a culture of peace in Ghana. He explained that the initiative is more than a campaign, serving as a testament to the powe r of collective action. 'The Pledge underscores the vital role of law in safeguarding our nation's integrity, especially during this period of heightened political activity,' he stated. He further added, 'Let us remember that peace is not a passive state but an active choice - one that demands vigilance, empathy, and commitment to justice, recognizing its potential to shape Ghana's electoral process.' The General Secretary of GIMPA Law Students Association and Convener of the event, Ms. Celestine Addo, said the Peace Forum aimed to ignite a collective pledge to uphold the values of democracy and foster a culture of non-violence, respect, and fairness during the election season. 'Through the voices of tomorrow's legal custodians and today's thought leaders, we aim to inspire every Ghanaian to embrace the beauty of Ghana's democratic legacy,' Ms. Addo remarked. She indicated that the 'Peace through Democracy' project is a call to action for all stakeholders. Ms. Addo expressed gratitude, stating, 'The GIMPA Law School and its students highly appreciate JP Trustees Limited and the NLA for supporting this Peace Forum and setting the tone for what would resonate across the country - a steadfast commitment to fair, transparent, and peaceful elections.' Mr. Joshua Larbi, Managing Director of JP Trustees, expressed pride in supporting the Peace Campaign, an initiative meant to remind Ghanaians of the shared responsibility towards peaceful elections. He noted, 'As an oil marketing company with deep roots in Ghana, JP Trustees has always believed that the health and growth of any business are inseparably linked to the prosperity, stability, and unity of the host country. It is for these reasons that we believe in a united Ghana, through a peaceful election.'
